It's difficult for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have already been conquered.

This is the unit that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and previously enjoyed over three years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, targeted by the peak baggers, are what's still available for a team that has won it all.

That it took up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase exceeding 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, in truth, a compliment to the bowlers that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their batsmen to possess a record if not afforded the opportunity.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy being given an opportunity to produce her newest gem.

Initially recognized as the 19-year-old niece of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after Australia couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has experienced everything through 15 successful years since.

A T20 World Cup win happened three months after her debut and seven international trophies have resulted from 10 efforts across formats.

The gritty keeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India briefly halted the successful run.

That loss "drove us to rethink our standards," Healy stated recently.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the championship match and was declared player of the series. She made sure her country would not come up short.

If this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the argument supporting the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the challenge that comes when facing a record target and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was considerably tougher to anticipate.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 came as she was the highest scorer, but this performance followed six innings in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've observed me in practice sessions, it was a challenging time because it appeared my form was missing whatsoever," stated Healy.

"However when you step out on the field, your fighting spirit take over and you simply focus on the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her key asset - and an invaluable trait in replacing iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, dismissed by the young fast bowler in all three matches, but this time it merely gave Healy's motivation.

A single came off the bowler's initial ball and from that point Healy was underway.

"The possibility to take the field and face the challenge with her and merely enjoy the moment in that aspect, sort of got me going," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her quickest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 as she flogged anything short, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

When she was removed the team needed 66 more at one run per ball - a manageable total now needing a comfortable finish.

"To chase 330 is new territory so I'm happy we have the belief to do that now," added Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it another time but, if we do, we believe we can succeed."

These statements will be the final thing competing nations at this tournament want to hear.

In recent days a sense they will win from any position has become more firm - this triumph coming after win against Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a match against longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may probably be guaranteed.

During that phase they exited the previous year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a game Healy couldn't play because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the first time at an important competition.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated through the pain.

Yet even as she afterwards confessed those injuries have pushed back thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is expected to be her last as captain in ODI cricket and she is yet to win a global event as leader.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her final mountain.
