It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
